Budhanilkantha School is Nepal's premier boarding high school and middle school. It was established in 1972 in the outskirts of Kathmandu valley with the aim of being the national school of Nepal where gifted children from all corners of Nepal could get educated, including those from poor economic backgrounds who might otherwise not receive a strong education. More than one-third of the students receive some form of scholarship from the government or private British organizations to cover the cost of their education and stay in the school. The school was opened by the British who also ran the administration of the school until 1995, after which the administration was handed over to Nepalese. The school was a all boys school until 1992, when it became co-educational.

The school educates students from grades 4 to 10, following the government curriculum. After completing grade 10, students can choose between studying for the University of Cambridge GCE A-levels or the Higher Secondary Education Board's +2 education programme. Students who choose the A-level often end up going to prestigious Colleges and Universities in the United States or the United Kingdom. The alumni also have a non-political organization in North America called SEBS-NA (Society of Ex-Budhanilkantha Students - North America).
Budhanilkantha School is Nepal's premier boarding high school and middle school. It was established in 1972 with the aim of being the national school of Nepal where gifted children from all of Nepali districts could get educated, including those of poor backgrounds who would otherwise not receive a strong education. The school was a boys-only school until 1995, after which, with the change of administration from a British agency to a Nepali one, it became a coeducational school. It is located on the outskirts of Kathmandu valley.
*The late king Dipendra Shah
*The late prince Nirajan Shah
*Present Crown Prince Paras Shah
*Swarnim Wagley
*Bhusan Dahal
*Nabin K. Bhattarai
*Sachit Pandey

Present Condition
The school is the best school in the whole country and it will be a complete waste of time to say that there are major disclipinary problems arising in this school. And like in US, the school is plagued by a self-serving administration and despite prevailing problems like increasing drug use and entry into the school through corrupt means, individuals associated with the school continue to claim prominence. That is not to say the school does not produce a good number of intelligent able students. Most of these students go to foreign countries and climb
corporate ladders.
At present rumours of students' dissatisfaction with the teachers and 'revolutionary' acts are flying around.
