The University of Delhi was established in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly.
Only three colleges existed then in Delhi: St. Stephens College founded in 1881, Hindu College founded in 1899 and Ramjas College founded in 1917, which were affiliated to the University. The University thus had a modest beginning with just three colleges, two faculties (Arts and Science) and about 750 students. Apart from central administrative offices, examination offices and the sports complex, the main departments of the Faculty of Science are housed in the Viceregal Lodge Estate.Sir Maurice Gwyer, who was the then Vice Chancellor, realizing the importance of a distinguished faculty, searched for talent all over the country and brought men of eminence to this University, such as Prof. D S Kothari in Physics, Prof. T R Sheshadri in Chemistry, Prof. P Maheshwari in Botany and Prof. M L Bhatia in Zoology. Over the last seven decades the University has grown into one of the largest universities in India. In an effort to cope with this enormous expansion, the University in the early seventies initiated a new organizational pattern based on the multi-campus concept. The South Campus made a beginning in 1973 by starting postgraduate programmes in some departments of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in a rented building. The campus acquired land near Dhaula Kuan where the building of Arts Faculty was first constructed. Offices and teaching activities shifted to this campus in 1983. A beginning has been made towards establishing the East and West Campuses of the University. The East Campus is being developed with the University College of Medical Science as its nucleus, while the West Campus will have as its focus on Engineering and Technology. When the University Grants Commission started establishing Centres of Advanced Studies in the country, 6 were awarded to the University of Delhi out of a total of 18 such centres in the early sixties. These were in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Economics and Sociology. These Centres of Advanced Studies are now the centres of excellence in teaching and research in their respective areas. In addition, a number of these and other University departments received grants under the Special Assistance Programme of the UGC in recognition of their outstanding academic work. The University has 15 libraries. These are in addition to Libraries in the Colleges. The University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) has a number of sophisticated research instruments which are used by several departments of the University and by other institutions in Delhi and its the neighbourhood. The University of Delhi South Campus conducts various teaching programmes under different faculties. Students joining courses such as English, Hindi, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Commerce and Mathematics at the masters level, have the option to get themselves enrolled in the University, either through college or directly at the South Campus. Students have to fill in a Centralized Registration Form for admission, as the classes for these programmes are held in the South Campus and not in the Colleges. In all other subjects, the students, after getting the Admission Slip, have to get enrolled in the South Campus itself.

Courses such as Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Business Economics (MBE), Master of Finance and Control (MFC), M.Sc. Informatics have their own admission procedure etc.

Admission tests are held locally in Delhi for courses such as M.Tech in Microwave Electronics, M.Sc. Electronics (50% seats), M.Sc. Genetics, M.Sc. Plant Molecular Biology, M.Sc. The goal of this project is to implement a system of free top level domains. One possibility is the implementation of a Firefox plugin that will forward appropriate queries to a server that will then match the query with the site's server's IP address or URL. Alternatively, with cooperation of ICANN this could simply be implemented in a rather standardized way. If there are multiple free domains then there could be different ways in which domains are allocated. There could be different rules for what is allowed on each different domain. Could this be done using some sort of peer-to-peer mechanisms?

The term is often used in a derogatory manner by other less obsessed fans. In the songs of the fannish [[parody]] [[musician]] [[Luke Ski]], many characters proudly consider themselves ''fanboys''. The term is most commonly associated with adolescent and teen males but can be applicable to any age or sex. Also published in 1982, a comic strip appeared in Jim Engel and Chuck Fiala's "Fandom Confidential" comic. In the strip, Jim and Chuck met comic artist/writer [[John Byrne]] and collapsed into "mindless paroxysms of adoration." == Introduction ==

XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is used in mainstream development. It might have started off as an attempt at a web standard, but is now used even in more traditional applications as a document standard. For example, the Open Document Format employed by Sun in their StarOffice and OpenOffice suites is based on XML pawan .

Because of its wide-spread use in the IT industry, it is fitting that we as PHP developers know how to make use of XML files in our PHP applications.

== XML Structure ==

Since XML documents are extensible, there are no limits to the tags that you can create to define data with. Here is an example of a simple XML document :

<body>XML is as simple as pie. :-)</body>

The reason that it looks so simple, is because it is so simple! Just as in HTML, elements are enclosed by angled brackets : "<" and ">", where the start element differs from the end element by the exclusion of a forward slash : "/".

== Creating an XML Parser in PHP ==

In PHP, you define an XML Parser by using the xml_parser_create() function as shown below.

You can think of the $parser variable in terms of a parsing engine for the XML document. Note that the ENCODING can be either :

1. ISO-8859-1 (default)

2. US-ASCII

3. UTF-8

Element handlers are defined by means of the xml_set_element_handler() function as follows :

== Parsing XML Documents ==

We have seen the steps needed to successfully parse a XML document with PHP. Lets take a moment to reflect on how these steps are interconnected.

When a XML parser is initialized, php will go through the XML file. When a starting tag is found, a predefined function created by you, the programmer, is called. The same thing happens when php encounters the text between tags, and the end tags.

Here is a complete example of parsing XML documents. This example is a RSS reader which can be used to display News Articles from any RSS feed which conforms to RSS 1.0 standards.
