The history of Hypercane
65 million years ago a massive asteroid crashed into Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. 75% of all life on earth vanished; but could a single asteroid have been the lone killer? Theories about what happened after the impact have been speculated on by the scientific community. Ranging from global warming to lethal worldwide firestorms, ideas have been put forth--but none have been proven. Then in 1995 a new theory claimed that a powerful mega storm known as a Hypercane caused the extinction. The Hypercane allegedly reaches 20 miles into the stratosphere and has wind speeds of up to 700 miles per hour. 3-D computer animations will reveal how this storm could have brought down nearly all life on the planet.

Physical description
Hypercanes would have wind speeds of over 500 kilometers per hour (310.7 miles per hour; 130 m/s), and would also have a central pressure of less than 700 hectopascals, giving them an enormous lifespan. The extreme conditions needed to create such a storm could conceivably produce a system up to the size of North America, creating storm surges of 60 and an eye nearly 200 across. The waters could remain hot enough for weeks, allowing more hypercanes to be formed. A hypercane's clouds would reach 20 miles into the stratosphere. A hypercane could also damage the earth's ozone.

Hypercanes in fiction
The anime Tactical Roar uses a fictional hypercane in the Pacific Ocean as a pretext to showcase naval battles, which are the series' focus.

The Railway Stories were a series of audio adaptations of The Railway Series by Rev. W Awdry, made in the 1970s. Originally they were released on albums by Decca record label, and were later released on audio cassettes. The first eight ("The Three Railway Engines" through to "Gordon the Big Engine") were narrated by Johnny Morris. He was later replaced by Willie Rushton, who narrated "Edward the Blue Engine" through to "Tramway Engines."

A new Railway Stories recording was released on CD by BBC Audiobooks in March 2006. It contained adaptations of the first three Railway Series books, and was narrated by Michael Angelis.
