==Reaction mechanism==
The first step of the Bouveault aldehyde synthesis is the formation of the [[Grignard reagent]].  Upon addition of a N,N-disubstituted [[formamide]] (such as [[Dimethylformamide|DMF]]) a [[hemiaminal]] is formed, which can easily be [[hydrolyzed]] into the desired aldehyde.
