The 3rd were deployed to [[Guadalcanal]] in August of the same year. They returned to the US in December [[1945]] and were deactivated on Christmas Eve.

| From November 1969 until July 1989, the battalion was stationed at [[Camp Hansen]], Okinawa. From 1976 through 1978 they were known as the '''3rd Headquarters and Service Battalion''', from 1978 through 1979 they were renamed the '''3rd Provisional Landing Support Battalion''', from 1979-1993 they were named the '''3rd Landing Support Battalion'', only to be re-named again from 1993 through 1999 as the '''3rd Support Battalion'''. This was followed by another re-naming from 1999 til 2006 as the '''3rd Transportation Support Battalion'''. They participated in [[Operation Desert Storm]], [[Operation Desert Shield]], [[Operation Provide Comfort]], [[Operation Sea Angel]] and [[Operation Fiery Vigil]] between 1989 and 1991. Since then the 3rd has seen no combat, and is stationed alternately in [[Naha City]], [[Japan]] and [[Hawaii]].
