A subject of recent pondering is this: Drug rehabilitation is the rehabilitation away from or off of drugs, vocational rehabilitation is the rehabilitation in to or with developing a vocation. When we consider the recovery movement with its spectrum from pro to anti psychiatry beliefs, and we attach to it in some way to the profession of psychiatric rehabilitation, I can not help but wonder; is psychiatric rehabilitation a rehab from and off or a rehab with and to psychiatry?

It seems like it could be either... depending on your perspective. It seems like "true" recovery would be complete remission in theory (i.e. my schizophrenia/bi-polar disorder is cured!). So it seems like to get away from psychiatrists (or else a fundamental change in the way psychiatry is practiced and taught) would be the only way to make this happen. On the other hand, one could surmise that if one was to be "a good" patient all the time and take their meds as described, and not experience their symptoms, then they could be thought to be "recovered". Those are just my cursory thoughts. I am not actually too familiar with the movement, although sometimes I do consider my self to be anti-psychiatry (that'll just be a little secret between you and me). Wikademia

-''Loren Booda who first coining the term "recovery psychology"'' This author sent an email to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) asking about the concept of mental health recovery in 2005 and asked what the academic psychological implications of this would be.  This was after the author had read the US Department Health and Human Services intiative "Sciences to Services" which regarded all this "mental health recovery" propaganda.  This author being a student of behavior science; particularly clinical psychology was of course curious about this "mental health recovery" concept.  Three years later as this author went through training for case-management for a behavioral health outpatient clinic, the class was asked to watch a video from the NAMI educational series, featuring of course Loren Booda (the same person who had previously coined the phrase "recovery psychology" in an email.)  Loren Booda identifies himself as a consumer of mental health services whom is in recovery and now works for NAMI.
