The term wolf pack, when applied to submarines, is a nautical allusion to submarines as wolves. On the seas sumbmarines merit the allusion due to their many strategic advantages. The allusion to wolves is due to the human precept that wolves are feared and dangerous animals. When submarines are sent out with objectives to destroy targets it is said they hunt. Like wolves, they attempt to seek and destroy larger prey by strategically ganging up on them.
