Peer to peer wiki system

Summary

It has been suggested to create a P2P interface for Wikipedia - that is, a network daemon that will monitor P2P queries over a specific network, and suggest and provide Wikipedia articles relating to the query. A more lengthy explanation may be found at Gnutella.

Gnutella

• True, Gnutella was never meant for distribution of information such as Wikipedia articles, and is much fragmented (not to mention antique), but one cannot deny the fact that it is still extremely popular. Provided no better alternative presents itself, I support the use of Gnutella. -- Itai 14:03, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Freenet

• I don't think Freenet will do. While it is more cleverly designed - and much more impressive - than Gnutella, I have yet to see proof that it properly functions. In addition, Freenet files are not shared - it is my understanding that they are uploaded and distributed across the network, eventually erased if uncalled for. Obviously, this solution cannot be used for Wikipedia articles. -- Itai 14:03, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Clients

Suggest GNU- or similarly-licensed clients from whose code the Wikipedia P2P daemon will be devised and discuss their relative advantages and disadvantages. Many clients can be found at [2] and [3].

Naming is important. Suggest a name for the project.
