A lot of times, developers will only consider performance, code elegance, or any number of distractions that result in the product delivery being delayed. There are developers that also lack the discipline or stamina to complete projects that end up taking an extended amount of time. Missing a deadline has very negative consequences for the company that is waiting on the product.
