NothingOS is a user interface developed by Nothing Technology Limited for Nothing and CMF devices running Android. Its goal is to provide users with a minimalist and fluid experience through a monochrome, clean interface accompanied by exclusive features.

It is also used to operate the "Glyph" system on smartphones equipped with this interface, allowing the phone's lights to interact with the user and the device's content.

It was initially developed for the Nothing Phone (1).

History

The development of Nothing OS is part of the company’s strategy to offer a distinctive and minimalist alternative to the traditional Android experience, aligning with the sleek visual identity of Nothing products.

The first version of Nothing OS was released in July 2022 alongside the launch of the Nothing Phone (1), the brand's first smartphone. Built on Android, Nothing OS features a simplified user interface, monochrome aesthetics, and smooth animations. The goal was to minimize pre-installed apps to the bare essentials, optimizing performance while providing a user experience that aligns with the brand’s ecosystem.

In July 2023, with the release of the Nothing Phone (2), Nothing OS 2.0 was introduced. This version brought enhancements to customization, including the ability to create personalized widgets for the home and lock screens, reinforcing the modular nature of the interface.

The Nothing OS 2.5 update, based on Android 14, was rolled out in December 2023, introducing features like a game mode, better battery management, and expanded customization options. This version was also made available for the Phone (1), demonstrating the brand’s commitment to keeping older models up to date.

Nothing OS continues to evolve alongside the development of new hardware products from the brand.

Nothing OS 1.1.8	This version was released on January 19, 2023, bringing the January 2023 Android security patches.
Nothing OS 1.5 (Beta1)	The version was initially released on December 16, 2022, based on Android 13. It received a second beta update on January 13, 2023, followed by fixes on January 18 to improve performance and the Glyph interface. The public rollout began on February 16, 2023, under the name Nothing OS 1.5.2. This update introduced a new weather app as well as various improvements, including performance optimizations and features from Android 13, such as the new QR code scanner. The system was officially announced on February 22, 2023, through a press release from Nothing.
Nothing OS 1.5.3	This version was released on March 14, 2023, bringing support for Nothing Ear 2, February 2023 fixes, and more features.
Nothing OS 1.5.4	Released on May 5, 2023, this update adds three new features: users can now send feedback directly to Nothing, Bluetooth access is simplified in quick settings, and the Camera app can scan UPI QR codes for instant payments. It also includes system improvements and bug fixes.
Nothing OS 2.0	Released on August 28, 2023, this update brings several new features, including a monochrome icon pack and an update to Glyph interface version 2. New features include Glyph Torch, which turns the Glyph system into a flashlight, and Essential Notifications, allowing certain apps or contacts to display persistent notifications.
Nothing OS 3.0	Released on December 19, 2024, this version is based on Android 15. New features include shared widgets, the Nothing Gallery app, and enhanced quick settings. It comes with the Phone 3a/3a Pro.
