Lunar Magic is a level editor created by FuSoYa for Super Mario World.[1] It's well known for being the tool that created the famous hacked game: Brutal Mario World. The interface runs on Microsoft Windows and allows to create custom graphics and edit the world map.[2]
Joystiq.com reports the software was used to hack Super Mario World to make levels they then got to work on modified Nintendo DS's. [3]
History
According to FuSoYa, he created the level editor for the SNES game Super Mario World, starting in February 2000. The first public release was in in late September 2000. New releases with improvements continued over the years.
Main Uses
As a level editor for Super Mario World, Lunar Magic is often used as an assistant tool to hack and create new games, such as the case of Brutal Mario World.
Editing the Game
There are two ways to edit the game: Level Editor, where you can edit the enemies and items of an especific level, and Overworld editor, where you can edit the land mass, the ways Mario travels and the level's positions in the Overworld. Both of them are pretty useful when creating a game, since you want it to be unique.
