Jami'a Nooriyya is an unaided Arabic College, the equivalent of north Indian madrasa, located at Pattikkad, near Perinthalmanna in Malappuram District, Kerala. Established in 1963, it is the premier traditionalist Sunni-Shafi'i institution for the training of the clergy in Kerala.[1]

Graduates from Jami'a Nooriyya could sit privately for the publicly recognized afzal al-ulama credential, which qualifies them to serve as Arabic lecturers in government educational institutions.[1] The curriculum used at Jami'a Nooriyya is a modified version of the one utilized at the Vellore Baqiyyat (with Shafi'i Law).[1]

The institute is managed by Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyat al-'Ulama', the principal Sunni-Shafi'i scholarly body in Kerala. It celebrates its anniversary in February–March of every year.[2] Jamia has more than 50 junior colleges across the country. The institution is planning to set up its junior colleges in Nairobi and Fiji as declared officially by its head Prof. Ali Kutty Musliyar.

Students' Union

There is a strong student union in the college called Noorul Ulama Students Association. Their activities are exemplary for all institutions and unions. They conduct camps, seminars, workshops and debates to educate students and the public about Islamic principles. It allows people to live peacefully without communal strife and to behave in harmony with one another. It is a fact that Noorul Ulama has the reputation of being the first Islamic student organization in Kerala.

The Union has published a number of useful and informative books in various languages. In addition, a souvenir is published every year to commemorate the college's anniversary.
