Introduction

Deashi Harai, often spelt Deashi Barai, is one of the original 40 throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. It belongs to the first group, Dai-ikkyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a foot technique, Ashi-Waza.

Deashi Harai is also one of the 20 techniques in Danzan Ryu's Nage No Te list.

Technique description

Judo: Uke steps forward. Tori sweeps uke's forward stepping foot. Uke takes a hard fall. The technique is so simple and efective, it requires no hazushi (off ballancing of uke) and can be done even without a hold on uke by tori. Extremely effective against "dancing boxers".

DZR: Tori pushes uke back. As uke steps back and shifts his weight back, tori sweeps uke's forward foot, pulls him in (hazushi), and guides him down a side.[1]

Tournament from http://www.judoinfo.com/video8.htm, although if the distinction is made, this is really a good example of Okuriashi Harai, aka DZR's Okuri Harrai. It's often the case the techniques done in tournaments are fuzzy and hard to categorize.
