The reason why it is called a hand throw is because it should feel effortless using the foreward momentum of the attacker rather than brute force and of course there is no hip contact. The throw is normally used by gripping the opponents jacket however can be done by holding one of the assailants arms at the elbow and the other at the shoulder.

Tai Otoshi (体落?), is one of the original 40 throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. It belongs to the second group, Dai Nikyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a hand technique, Te-waza.
