Space Traffic Control.

Control Level

Level 1 - Starports ( essentialy local towers) Level 2 - Oribtal Control ( handles local Traffic and approach control) Level 3 - Space lanes Level 4 - Space based IFR Zone... Level 5 - Deep space...

Launch Procedures (level 1)

Orbital Control (level 2)

== Lane managment (Level 3)

Flght Rules Zones (level 4)

Off limits space... Restricted Airspace (for example Demios, Europa)

Space Corps intercept procedure

Specialist codes

These are some 'special' codes you may hear in trafic control messages.

All these are sounded phonetically, for example...

Victor-India-Papa-Romeo please state intention.
Victor-Alpha-Delta,Romeo please identify IMMEDIATELY
  • V,A,D,R - Unidentified rouge ship
  • V,I,P,R - Space Crops military vessel - (You don't mess with these!)
  • B,O,M,I - Presidential 'Yacht'.
  • S.T.A.R - Diplomatic Vessel

Indications ussaly sounded phonetically:

  • EVA - I have persons active outside vessel
  • LAME - (to tower) I have partial loss of manouvrability
  • DEAD - (to tower) I have TOTAL loss of manovrability
  • CHOKE - (to tower) I have loss of life support.

Call Signs

In respect of Sol system call signs for spacecraft are centrally allocated in respect of civil vessels. Millatry vessels are ussaly Star Corps...

Vehcile classes: Sounded phonetically,

  • V,I,P,R : Used for ALL military vehicles (Additonals chacters are assigned by

the Space Corps as needed for indvidiaul vessels)

  • S,T,R - Heavy freighter
  • F,T,R - Frieghtet
  • T,D,R - Trader
  • P,A,S - Passanger Vessel, Large
  • P,E,R - Passnager vessel, Small
  • P,L,X - Pleasure craft
  • O,O,K (Abrvetaion of Coocon)- Cyrogenic suspension vessel, ussaly unmanned.

Typical Exchanges

Games Inspiring some Features

  • Elite
  • Nomad
  • Xpilot

<mirwin_> We will have a lunar rover gamelet. JFreerails is already playable and I think easily added to for an interface to the spaceport. Subgames in cisLunarFreighter could be broken out as loading game, lunar lander take off or horizontal orbiter, both those talking to STC, then asteroids/xpilot, then talk to STC, lunar lander, mission complete, see what I mean by "little space games" <mirwin_> Ok that is good, developers who want to be subproject leader will show and some will need major help with ideas

<mirwin_> I will continue breaking out stuff but I do not want to overwhelm newcomers with appearance of only my stuff, in other words, that I want them to implement only my ideas and not theirs too, so is good you are second idea person

<ShakespeareFan00> One thing all 'cival' vessels have to know if the Star Corps intercept procedure <mirwin> have you played privateer in the wing commander universe? <ShakespeareFan00> No: <ShakespeareFan00> I am basing all this on various film. video games and Aviation stuff I've read :-) <ShakespeareFan00> and my own logcial reasoning therefrom <ShakespeareFan00> Anyhow <mirwin> Theer if you make mistake and fire on Space Patrol you are classifed as pirate and actively hunted <mirwin> In our game be bad mistake for a freighter to fire on Space Patrol --- think Defender lol <ShakespeareFan00> In my example there isn't millaty as such <ShakespeareFan00> Star Corps are essentialy Coast gaurd patrols normally <ShakespeareFan00> So VIPR42 is essentaly the call sign for the Anti -vice unit <mirwin> True I think we coould actions classify player ships. Act like pirate treat like pirate. Blown out of sky. Little crew guys for space patrol to pick up <ShakespeareFan00> Star Corps don't shoot without questions <ShakespeareFan00> Which is why there is an intercept procedure

<ShakespeareFan00> Of course if ships ignore intercept proecure.... <ShakespeareFan00> Star Corps objective is shoot to disable <ShakespeareFan00> It's only known troublemakers or obvious risks they will blast... <ShakespeareFan00> Anyhow.... This is how the intecrpt proecedure works <ShakespeareFan00> .. <ShakespeareFan00> Star Corps interceptors ( Call Sign VIPR xx) <ShakespeareFan00> work in pairs <ShakespeareFan00> To intercept, they will overfly on the port and starbaod sides of a vessel and execute a roll while doing so <mirwin> I guy we could have a percentage damage. Certain probably of blowing up when damaged. survivers to pick up after shp blows but player loses ship <ShakespeareFan00> mirwin: Thats your side... <ShakespeareFan00> I am delaing with procedural <mirwin> right sorry <mirwin> lets keep on you have good ideas! <ShakespeareFan00> Whilt executing the role the Vipers will issue a 'CEPT <vessel call sign>' message on all channels <ShakespeareFan00> If this is ignored - the procedure is repeated twice <ShakespeareFan00> If a CEPT is ignroed three times in succession, then VIPR's can shoot to disable... <ShakespeareFan00> The aim being to stop trouble developing <mirwin> If fired upon can VIPR immediately return fire? <ShakespeareFan00> Yes <mirwin> ok good! <ShakespeareFan00> Assuminh Hostile ifre that is... <ShakespeareFan00> Sparks or debries falling off doesn't count <mirwin> ooh ooh friendly fire incidents! <ShakespeareFan00> civl vessles thend to have IFOF <ShakespeareFan00> Absence of IFOF is a no-go item at launch <ShakespeareFan00> Sorry just thinking in terms of procedure here... <mirwin> "IFOF"? <ShakespeareFan00> Identify Freined or Foe <ShakespeareFan00> *friend <mirwin> got it <ShakespeareFan00> legitmate vessles would not have good reasons to avoid having it <mirwin> IFF integogate friend or foe <ShakespeareFan00> OK <ShakespeareFan00> An intercepted vessel is supposed to acknlowedge CEPT's by repating the call back to the VIPR's <mirwin> have any ideas on how a pirate base would operate ...they would not use STC? <ShakespeareFan00> mirwin: Well, a priate base would try to operate within STC as far as they could <ShakespeareFan00> but they would have thier own procedures... <mirwin> good point flyby's maybe necessary to identify or follow pirate ship in <ShakespeareFan00> STC has a special code VADR for unidentifed vessels <ShakespeareFan00> VADR vessels behaving in a hostile manner and that don't respond to cept messages are liable to be disabled... <ShakespeareFan00> mirwin: However operating a base outside STC rules is a serious matter... <ShakespeareFan00> Star Corps have been known to be 'unpleasent' with rouge operators... <mirwin> hmm maybe a rover trip ground inspection of some kind <ShakespeareFan00> Thats or a flyover... <ShakespeareFan00> All 'legit' bases have to confirm to STC spec <ShakespeareFan00> Like having certain mimumum equipment standards, radar etc <ShakespeareFan00> Pirate bases of course might not have the same standard of equipment... <mirwin> there was an asteroid style game with gravity and bunkers ... good model for simple flyover prototype LSG <ShakespeareFan00> 'legit' cival bases also have to register... <ShakespeareFan00> the Sol Registry containing at presnt abvout 30 known bases... <ShakespeareFan00> Star Corps keeps it's own list of milatyr facilities <mirwin> ah good - players pick site and establish bases and facilities -- ties to Lunar Boom Town <ShakespeareFan00> (sometimes these are shared with 'cival' ones) <ShakespeareFan00> Or buy into common ones... <ShakespeareFan00> The STC is in effect a bit like the FAA <ShakespeareFan00> but in some areas it has more powers , and some less <ShakespeareFan00> For example the STC can ground usafe vessels <ShakespeareFan00> I don't think the FAA can canit? <mirwin> or buy abandoned miliatary! Imagine a flyover that turned from easy picking to lets get the hell out of here if we can! <mirwin> oh yes FAA shuts down unsafe in seconds <ShakespeareFan00> mirwin: The millatry tends to hang onto it's fcailites... <mirwin> if they can spot it in paperwork and inspections <ShakespeareFan00> STC also inspect facilites as well as vehicles... <mirwin> true - be rare abandond secret bases ...CIA types <ShakespeareFan00> The Star Corps knows about some of these... but won't tell ;-) <mirwin> 8) <ShakespeareFan00> I have to go <ShakespeareFan00> but please document the intercept rules <mirwin> ok I will copy this and try to organize same as before <ShakespeareFan00> I am on my way out so tlak later <ShakespeareFan00> :-) <mirwin> 8) <ShakespeareFan00> *will talk later <ShakespeareFan00> :-) <--| ShakespeareFan00 has left #wikiversity-en
