Linux Libertine is a font for computers that is OpenSource and free in the sense of the GPL. It belongs to the Libertine Open Fonts Project that aims at creating free and open type fonts to give users the alternative to commercial fonts like Times Roman.

Linux Libertine is a serif proportional font with the look of a 19th century book type, though it has ben developed for todays usability. It contains more than 1400 charakters in Unicode and therefore supports many different languages of the western latin, greek and cyrillic typeset. Aditionally it offers several ligatures (such as ff, fi, ct,..) and has special charakters like IPA charakters, arrows, fleural symbols, roman numbers, mediaval numbers, etc.

Up to now there are the folling faces availible:

  • regular
  • bold
  • italic
  • bolditalic
  • underlined
  • small capitals
