Combat Logistics Battalion 3 (CLB-3) is a logistics battalion in the United States Marine Corps. They are part of the 3rd Marine Logistics Support Group and Combat Logistics Regiment 3.
Founding and World War II
Activated in 1942 at Camp Elliot, California, the first deployment of the 3rd was to New Zealand in 1943, stationed at Auckland. The 3rd were deployed to Guadalcanal in August of the same year. They returned to the US in December 1945 and were deactivated on Christmas Eve.
Re-activation and Japan
The 3rd was reactivated in 1952, again at Camp Pendleton, and was deployed to Japan the following year, where they served until October 1957. Upon returning to the United States the Battalion was deactivated.
The 3rd was reactivated for the final time on 1 July 1964, in Okinawa. Sent to Vietnam in April 1964, the Battalion served there until April 1969, when they were redeployed to Okinawa.
1970s to present
From November 1969 until July 1989, the battalion was stationed at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. They participated in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Provide Comfort, Operation Sea Angel and Operation Fiery Vigil between 1989 and 1991. Since then the 3rd has seen no combat, and is stationed alternately in Naha City, Japan and Hawaii.
