Combat Logistics Battalion 3 (CLB-3) is a logistics battalion in the United States Marine Corps. They are headquartered at Marine Corps Base Hawaii and fall under the command of Combat Logistics Regiment 3 and the 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3rd MLG)
Mission
History
World War II
Activated on September 16, 1942 at Camp Elliot, California as the 2nd Battalion, 19th Marines, their first deployment was to New Zealand in 1943, where they were stationed in Auckland. The 3rd were deployed to Guadalcanal in August of the same year. They returned to the US in December 1945 and were deactivated on Christmas Eve.
Re-activation and Japan
The battalion was reactivated in 1952 as the 3rd Shore Party Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California and was deployed to Japan the following year, where they served until October 1957. Upon returning to the United States the battalion was deactivated.
Vietnam War
The 3rd was reactivated for the final time on July 1, 1964, in Okinawa. Sent to Vietnam in April 1964, the battalion served there until April 1969, when they redeployed to Okinawa.
1970s to present
From November 1969 until July 1989, the battalion was stationed at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. From 1976 through 1978 they were known as the 3rd Headquarters and Service Battalion', from 1978 through 1979 they were renamed the 3rd Provisional Landing Support Battalion, from 1979-1993 they were named the 3rd Landing Support Battalion, only to be re-named again from 1993 through 1999 as the 3rd Support Battalion. This was followed by another re-naming from 1999 til 2006 as the 3rd Transportation Support Battalion. They participated in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Provide Comfort, Operation Sea Angel and Operation Fiery Vigil between 1989 and 1991. Since then the 3rd has seen no combat, and is stationed alternately in Naha City, Japan and Hawaii.
