Czech is one of several languages that do not use the Latin names for months which are common in western Europe. Here are the months of the year in Czech:
- leden (ice month)
- únor (month when ice dip)
- březen (birch month)
- duben (oak month)
- květen (flower month)
- červen (month of worms)
- červenec (month when fruit ripen)
- srpen (sickle month)
- září (month when the sun only shines without warming)
- říjen (rutting month)
- listopad (falling leaves)
- prosinec (probably from "prasinec", the month when pigs (prasata) were slaughtered)
