Federal Student Loan Forgiveness
Perkins Loan, Stafford Loan, and other FFELP loans are subject to various loan forgiveness and cancellation programs. A portion of full-time teachers' student loans can be forgiven for each year teaching in low-income schools, or in teacher shortage subject areas such as math, science, special education, or foreign language. There also exist programs for forgiveness of childcare workers' Stafford loans, and for forgiveness of law school and medical school loans for professionals working for the public interest or in shortage areas of the country.
