Hyperformalism is a critical construct created by DC Spensley in 2003 to describe a late 20th century, early 21st century mass art phenomena consisting of large numbers of computer users expressing themselves abstractly with multimedia software.

The term Hyperformalism is derived from the combination of the words http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formalism (as described by http://www.wikipedia.org) and generally describes aesthetic self expression without anthropomorphic, or representative context. This fact seperates Hyperformalism from Digital Collage, or aesthetic photo manipulation which is also widespread in the culure.
