Hymera is a Linux distribution based on Debian developed to be implemented both on complex management infrastructure, and in local simple environments.

Is a Linux distribution based on the GNOME desktop, and uses the 3D Compiz Manager 0.8.1.

The purpose of Hymera is to ensure ease of installation and use.

History

Hymera is a Linux distribution developed by Hymera Engineering, and is released as free software under GNU GPL license.

The first version of Hymera was issued on March 19Th 2009.^[1] ^[2].

System requirements

The minimum requirements are:^[3]:

Minimum 700MHz for x86 processor or 64bit processors such as AMD64;
384 MB of RAM;
At least 8 GB of free hard disk space;
VGA video card with a minimum resolution at 1024x768;
Sound card (optional).

Hymera Desktop

Hymera Desktop Solution^[4] is the Desktop version of Hymera, created to respond to the needs of the average user, such as Internet browsing, creation and management of documents and pictures, listen to music and multimedia in general. There are also applications for entertainment and communication.

The main feature remains the ease of use and updating of the whole system and its stability and reliability. Hymera, in fact, aims to facilitate the use of the operating system even less experienced users^[5].

Installation

To install Hymera on your PC, you need to download and burn the iso image. The download may be performed from both the official site and from the community.

The installation is done in graphics mode. You can install Hymera both on a PC that doesn't have another operating system and on a PC with another operating system, resizing the original partition without losing data. Installing the system takes a few minutes.

Community

Users can contribute to the development of Hymera reporting and / or correcting bugs, writing and improving the Wiki, by proposing new ideas, developing packages, helping the new users on the support forum.

Wiki

The Wiki is a collection of documentation made available to users to support them the use of Hymera. It includes two sections:

The Official Guide, containing the guidelines for an easy and correct use of Hymera;
The Community Guide, made available to user-developers who want to contribute to the project by creating, modifying, and improving its content.

Forum

Through the Forum, you can interact with the community of Hymera, ask questions, discuss with other members of the community, find the solution to a problem, help other users.
