Aster is a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange and derivatives platform focused on perpetual futures trading.[1][2] The platform supports trading across multiple blockchain networks and offers perpetual futures and other digital asset trading services.[1]
History
In March 2025, Astherus relaunched under the Aster brand following its merger with APX Finance.[3][4][1] In September 2025, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao stated that several former Binance employees were involved in Aster and that investment firm YZi Labs, formerly known as Binance Labs, held a minority stake in the project.[5][6] The same month, Aster launched its native ASTER token through a token generation event (TGE).[7] In November 2025, Zhao disclosed that he had personally purchased more than two million ASTER tokens using his own funds.[8][9]
Platform
The platform operates across multiple blockchain networks and offers both a simplified high-leverage trading mode and a professional trading interface based on a central-limit-order-book system.[2][10] In a 2025 interview, Aster CEO Leonard[11] described the project as having expanded from perpetual futures into spot trading and yield-bearing asset products.[12] In February 2026, the platform was ranked among the largest perpetual contract decentralized exchanges by trading volume.[13][14] Aster has been described as seeking to improve the efficiency and execution of decentralized perpetual futures trading through liquidity aggregation and dedicated trading infrastructure.[15] The exchange later expanded its offerings to include perpetual futures contracts linked to U.S. equities.[16]
Aster Chain
In March 2026, the platform launched the mainnet of its Layer 1 blockchain focused on trading infrastructure.[17]
