Budhanilkantha School
Budhanilkantha School is Nepal's premier boarding high school and middle school. It was established in 1972 in the outskirts of Kathmandu valley with the aim of being the national school of Nepal where gifted children from all corners of Nepal could get educated, including those from poor economic backgrounds who might otherwise not receive a strong education. More than one-third of the students receive some form of scholarship from the government or private British organizations to cover the cost of their education and stay in the school. The school was opened by the British who also ran the administration of the school until 1995, after which the administration was handed over to Nepalese. The school was a all boys school until 1992, when it became co-educational.
The school educates students from grades 4 to 10, following the government curriculum. After completing grade 10, students can choose between studying for the University of Cambridge GCE A-levels or the Higher Secondary Education Board's +2 education programme. Students who choose the A-level often end up going to prestigious Colleges and Universities in the United States or the United Kingdom. The alumni also have a non-political organization in North America called SEBS-NA (Society of Ex-Budhanilkantha Students - North America).
The school is considered as the national school of Nepal. The students are highly talented in a number of areas. The main aim of the school is to provide the students some quality education along with some extra curricular activities. There are quite a few clubs in the school which organise programs of various sorts throughout the year. After graduation too, many ex students often visit the place. The students have obvious respect towards the school.
