Template:Use dmy dates Template:Infobox company/sandbox Bellevue Education is an international education management company, founded in 2003 and based in Surrey.[1][2][3] It now owns ten preparatory schools in the UK and two senior schools, in the UK and in Switzerland.[4][5][6]

History

Bellevue Education was founded under the name House Education by Mark Malley in 2003, when he bought Norfolk House preparatory school in London.[7][1][8][9] He also became the headteacher, and when the school was inspected in 2007 it was reported to be significantly improved from its previous inspection, with outstanding leadership.[10]

In 2008 House Education was renamed The Really Great Education Company Limited (EDCO) and purchased Weston Green School in Surrey.[1][8][11] It also purchased Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School in East Sussex in 2010,[8][12] an expansion which contributed to its identification as an aspirant company in the proprietorial schools sector.[13]

The company adopted the name Bellevue Education Group in 2011, prior to acquiring three more independent schools: Edenhurst Preparatory School in Staffordshire, Brabyns Preparatory School in Cheshire, and Gateway School in Buckinghamshire.[1][8][14]

In 2012, Bellevue Education Group was reported to be jointly owned by Mark Malley, with a 35% stake, and its Chairman Marwan Naja, owner of Plato One Ltd and Plato Two Ltd.[4][15] Mark Malley founded Bellevue Education over ten years ago and is passionate about education. He is chief executive officer and Marwan Naja is the group's chairman.[16] Further investment in that year by Plato Two Ltd coincided with the establishment of Bellevue Education International Limited, of which Bellevue Education Group became a wholly owned subsidiary.[17][18] The parent company completed the acquisition of a Swiss boarding school, Surval Mont-Fleuri, subsequently renamed as Surval Montreux.[8][19] [20] The group's growth was driven by funding derived largely from Tarek Obaid, the founder of the oil company PetroSaudi, which has been implicated in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.[21][22]

Back in the UK, Bellevue Education Group opened a new independent school, Wandsworth Preparatory School.[8][23]

During 2013, Bellevue Education Group acquired two more UK independent schools: Montessori House Nursery in Muswell Hill and Elmhurst School in South Croydon.[8]

Bellevue acquired two more UK independent schools in 2014: Forest Preparatory School in Altrincham and Forest Park Preparatory School in Sale, Greater Manchester.[8][24][25]

The group's latest acquisition was in March 2015: Ealing Independent College in West London.

In 2017, Bellevue is to open the Swiss International School of Qatar, located in Al Luqta, Doha. It was established in response to growing demand for school places in the city. The K-12 school will cater to both Qatari nationals and expatriates. It was founded under the leadership of Qatar’s Attorney General, Ali Bin Fetais Al-Marri, who described the partnership as an important milestone in the development of the country. The majority of teaching will be in English, but as a Swiss school, some French language and elements of Swiss culture will be included in the curriculum.[26]

Bellevue Place Education Trust

Established in 2012, Bellevue Place Education Trust (BPET) is a multi academy trust that sponsors seven primary Free Schools across London and the South-East.[27][28] Our core purpose is to establish, maintain and manage state funded Free Schools. All Bellevue Place Education Trust schools are focused to deliver quality education provision in areas where there is a shortage of primary school places.[29][30]

Bellevue Place Education Trust was established as a joint venture between two organisations who are passionate about providing quality education. These two organisations bring together the best of the fee-paying Independent sector – Bellevue Education Ltd – experienced in running a family of 15 independent schools in the UK and Switzerland; with a highly-regarded education consultancy – Place Group – who have been setting up new state schools for 15 years as well as ensuring schools compliantly procure best value goods and services in order to run effective back office environments in schools. BPET maintains schools in seven Local Authority regions, which includes Wandsworth, Windsor & Maidenhead, Islington, Brent, Hackney, Richmond on Thames and Barnet.[29][31][32][33][34][35]

The first school of the Bellevue Place Education Trust was Rutherford House School in Balham. Rutherford House opened successfully in September 2013 and received a Good Ofsted judgement with outstanding features in July 2015. Whitehall Park School opened in September 2014 as the second school in the Bellevue Place Education Trust, along with Braywick Court School in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Both schools are performing well and have proved a popular choice with local parents as they received significantly more applications than there are places. Along with Watling Park School, the Trust also opened three further school in September 2015 called Halley House School in Hackney, Kilburn Grange School in Brent and Deer Park School in Barnet.[36] In 2016, the Trust educated 800 pupils in the seven growing Free Schools – operating at 30% of total capacity.[29]

Bellevue Educational Foundation

The Bellevue Educational Foundation has been established to provide the parents, grandparents, alumni and friends the opportunity to make a donation to benefit students of all ages in the Bellevue Independent Schools. Its mission is to support and recognize innovative programs that offers hands-on experiences for students and provide opportunities for all segments of the community to actively contribute to the success of the students in the Bellevue Independent Schools. The ultimate mission is to assure maximum achievement of every student by supporting a dedicated team of teachers, parents, staff and administrators. The foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the educational opportunities of students in the Bellevue Schools.[37]

VIBES

VIBES is a volunteer program that has been operating in all Bellevue schools for 18 years. VIBES has provided a safety net for thousands of Bellevue students (K-12) that are at risk for academic failure or dropping out. VIBES helps students succeed in school by fostering their personal growth and improving their academic skills and work habits. This success is made possible by matching students with trained, caring, and dependable adult mentors who meet with them weekly during the school day in the classroom or a designated area at the school. VIBES volunteers support struggling students in various ways, including: One on One, Classroom, AVID, College Corps, STEM mentors and Big Picture School mentors and internship mentors.[38] These opportunities are available in all elementary, middle and high schools in the Bellevue School District. Placements are made based on the volunteer's interest and experience, location preference and time availability. Volunteers commit to one hour per week during the school day for the duration of the school year. This award-winning, 24-year program is a collaborative effort between Bellevue School District, City of Bellevue, the Bellevue Schools Foundation. Each year VIBES places volunteers from all walks of life - retirees, working professionals, parents, and high school and college students.[39]
