Culbert, then finishing his first year at University wanted to convey his personal passion for both fly fishing and [[escapism]].  Figuring [[Scotland]] was the perfect place for both these things Culbert, with the help of his friend and future flatmate Aidan Coates formed the St Andrews University Fly Fishing Club.
The club was established to display a passion for fly fishing to the wider University community.  The term 'Escapism' has been strongly associated with the club, due to the club's aim to allow students to escape the stresses and strains of University life and place them in the scenic beauty of the [[Perthshire]], [[Fife]] & [[Angus]] countryside as well as the [[Highlands]] and many Islands of [[Scotland]].


The club is renouned for being the only University Club in Europe and one of five in the world. It has also recieved commendation from [[Jeremy Paxman]], [[David Cameron]] and [[Iain Duncan Smith]].

The St Andrews University Fly Fishing Club was founded in 2005 by then first year student William Culbert.

The club was established to display a passion for fly fishing to the wider University community. The term 'Escapism' has been strongly associated with the club, due to the club's aim to allow students to escape the stresses and strains of University life and place them in the scenic beauty of the Perthshire, Fife & Angus countryside as well as the Highlands and many Islands of Scotland.
