Encyc
Encyc is a free encyclopedia written by volunteers using collaborative "wiki" software.
Encyc users partipate because they like to write encyclopedia articles. There is a need for simple, well-written, user-friendly articles that are easy to change. Encyc is all about making the job of writing these documents easier, by reducing the barriers between people who know things and people who need information.
All content submitted to Encyc is owned by the original contributors and licensed under the GFDL license in order to make it available for the widest number of people. It's the same setup that has made Wikipedia so successful, and makes sharing between Encyc and Wikipedia relatively easy.
Encyc has been in existence for more than a year, and is experiencing rapid growth. Write a good article there, and it could be read by thousands of people. Some users have copied Wikipedia articles to Encyc, and enjoy working on them in a small group setting without the pressure of hundreds of editors all hammering away at once. You can make major changes, and let your personal writing style come through in your work.
Encyc has no complicated templates, advanced coding, or byzantine regulations to worry about.
Encyc has been working in cooperation with Wikademia. The two sites produce a vibrant, diverse, learning and informational environment that is independent of the Wikimedia Foundation and other centralized resources.
