Slang meaning of sohan in Punjabi

The word 'Sohan' has many meanings in different languages. The meaning may vary from punjabi to Hindi dilects to Bengali and to may more languages observed in the India, Pakistan region or what is simply called Des. There are many contoversies as to what the word actually means and its use in Bollywood movies and Indian songs has been significantly challenged. To most people it is simply meant a sweet, charming and comfortable person, activity or a thing. The word has been incorporated and used in naming a sweet from Multan region of Pakistan. This sweet is called the SOHAN HALWA. It is popular through out Pakistan and India. Most people believe that the word 'Sohan' is related to the word 'Sohana' but it is completely untrue. There is no significant historic information available to back up this thought other than the mere similarity in the pronounciation. The word has been repeatidly used in Indian movies as well as songs and it has recently been caught emerging in the new Bengali songs. It is often used by people who tend to live in the world of fantasies of the Bollywood thinking life to be as realistic as it was pictured in fiction movies. Obviously the movies comprehend the word in a sweet way and use the word in referance to a charming and handsome personality in the film but there is more to this word than a simple sweetheart or a person you love. In some villages of Punjab, Pakistan and Punjab, India as well as other Punjabi territories the word is used by school and college students having a total different meaning and a disgrace to the person who is being called such a thing. Just like the slang meaning of the word 'Phool' (Flower in Punjabi and Hindi) is a vagina of a virgin girl, the word sohan is used in similar manners in the language of young adults in schools and colleges. The word is moslty used to cover up the talks of teenagers in front of respected adults. As a 'Phool' is a flower no one can think of it in a way other than that. Similarly 'Sohan' is used as a code word for a penis of person in slang Punjabi. The word originated in the slang version of the language due to the same analogy to hide the talks of these children in from of their elderly and respected individuals. The word is still used in movies and romantic songs but some make fun of it and take it in a way that is totally not romantic and comfortable for someone to hear. While the word is growing it still holds both meanings depending on with whom and where it it being used.
